Developing Leaders: Liz Claiborne, Inc.
In 2004, global fashion and lifestyle giant Liz Claiborne, Inc. (LCI) chose the Carson Greil Group to design its Leader Studio, a customized leadership development program.
In collaboration with Dr. Patricia Murrell and Kathy Story, Carson Greil designed a three-phase program to develop LCI leaders from the inside out, by focusing first on “who you are,” and then on “what you do.” Participants learn specific tools and practices to strengthen interrelationships, manage increasing complexity, and design a more effective future for themselves and their company.
The results have been compelling: “Approximately 80% of the Leader Studio participants have accelerated promotions and are having greater influence in reshaping the direction of the corporation,” says Elizabeth Hall, VP, Group HR Director. In response, Liz Claiborne, Inc. has made the Leader Studio a key part of its culture as an ongoing program for the company’s top 250 executives.
In a 2005 Hewitt Study, Liz Claiborne, Inc. ranked among America’s top ten companies for leadership and its impact on the bottom line. In 2008, the American Productivity & Quality Center, which is a member-based consortium of 500 organizations from all industry sectors, identified Liz Claiborne, Inc., as one of five best practices in talent management. The Leader Studio is a cornerstone program contributing to these national recognitions. Leadership Development clients like Liz Claiborne, Inc. find that our program leads to fresh insights and new attitudes that transform executive suites into ongoing teaching-learning communities.
